U.S. Department of Transportation Introduces Elaine Chao

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Elaine Chao as President Trump’s Secretary of Transportation in a 93-6 vote. On the same day, the U.S. Department of Transportation released a bulletin from Secretary Chao outlining challenges faced in the industry and potential areas for growth by incorporating technology.

Drones and autonomous vehicles are mentioned in her statement. As many carriers have adopted GPS fleet tracking technology to optimize operations and better monitor driver and vehicle activity, some fleet tracking solutions with driver safety features have served as pathways to the development of autonomous vehicles.
